Teen Filmmaker Lab

Congratulations Punch Drunk!

Our 2024 Seattle Teen Filmmaker Lab Team won Best High School Film at NFFTY!

Final Evaluation & Progress Report
Project: Punch Drunk
Supported by: 4Culture

We are thrilled to share the incredible success of our Seattle Teen Filmmaker Lab’s short film Punch Drunk, made possible with the generous support of 4Culture. Thanks to this vital grant funding, our youth-led production not only came to life but went on to receive the Best High School Film Jury Award at NFFTY, the world’s largest youth film festival.

This achievement is a direct reflection of the passion, creativity, and dedication our students poured into their work—and it wouldn’t have been possible without 4Culture’s belief in the transformative power of youth arts education. Your support empowered a diverse group of young storytellers to step behind the camera, collaborate as a creative team, and bring their vision to the screen.

What Students Learned

With guidance from our dedicated team of professional film mentors—who took time away from their careers to support the program—students were immersed in every step of the filmmaking process. They:

  • Developed and refined an original script

  • Learned camera operation, lighting, sound recording, and editing

  • Collaborated on directing, production design, and performance coaching

  • Navigated real-world problem solving on-set

  • Gained hands-on experience in post-production and color correction

  • Learned how to prepare, submit, and present their work at film festivals

This experience culminated not only in a powerful short film, but in a deep understanding of the creative and technical demands of storytelling through cinema.

Public Impact

Punch Drunk has been screened at several prominent venues to enthusiastic audiences, including:

  • SIFF Uptown Cinema (Seattle, WA)

  • Kiggins Theater (Vancouver, WA)

  • MoPOP’s Sound and Vision Theater (Seattle, WA)

  • Other local community screenings and educational showcases

Hundreds of attendees have praised the film for its emotional depth, visual style, and originality—further affirming the talent of our young filmmakers and the impact of programs like this.

Closing Appreciation

Winning at NFFTY is no small feat—it’s a national recognition of the talent, collaboration, and hard work our students invested. But more importantly, it highlights what’s possible when young people are given the resources and mentorship to express their voices.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to 4Culture for making this journey possible. Your support helped us nurture the next generation of storytellers and creators. We can’t wait to see what these young filmmakers dream up next—and we’re proud to say Punch Drunk is just the beginning.

With gratitude,
NW Film Camp & the Seattle Teen Filmmaker Lab Team
